“ A cool rainy Friday in Phoenix was perfect to sit by the screened opening and enjoy a bowl of their flavorful clam chowder. We almost felt like we were on the Maine coast. The chowder was as we hoped: not too heavily thickened with flour as many are, leaving a pasty feel in your mouth. The clams were tender and there was a fair amount in it. Highly recommend their chowder. ”
“ Fish tacos in the desert?!?! Chula's is flying in fresh fish from Point Loma. These fish tacos can't be beat! They are doing simple but quality dishes that makes for a healthy lunch or dinner. I frequently get their poke bowl when I don't get the tacos. It's always a special day when I get to go to Chula Seafood. If I have friends in town, I will pick up some fresh salmon to make at home to impress my guests ”
“ Came by for their anniversary special of $2 oysters. The atmosphere of the place is really nice and there's lots of seating. Staff was friendly as well. The counter had a lot of great looking seafood, I'd like to come back and buy some to cook at home! I ordered 12 oysters which came out to $26, so I would say they were pretty well priced. The vinaigrette that came with them was strong and tangy, infused with garlic and other herbs. The oysters tasted fresh as well. Only thing is I usually prefer the larger variety, but other than that I was satisfied! ”
“ I crave seafood often, but I'm not always wanting to go spend big, and I'm not too trusting of a cheap seafood spot in the middle of the desert. So, stumbling upon @chula one day was the best surprise! Chula started in San Diego and eventually realized that other desert dwellers, like me, wanted fresh seafood too. Chula has three locations in AZ. I stumbled upon the Uptown locatio, but they are also in South Scottsdale and Grayhawk. This upcoming Saturday their south Scottsdale location, called Rosie, is celebrating 8 years. Stop by for two buck shuck oysters, prizes, and more. The other two locations will be doing the two buck shucks as well! Check out their website for the daily menu at each location. My sister enjoyed her poke bowl and I took the suggestion of trying the popular California burrito with shrimp. It was amazing!!! The freshness and flavor was mouthwatering. The burrito is huge so it can easily be shared. I enjoyed a side of clam chowder as well and a tasty cocktail. It's a great value for delicious seafood, and I will most definitely return. ”
“ This seafood spot is in a nicer part of town, Uptown Plaza, a much-smaller outdoor strip plaza with a mix of independent and chain eateries and stores that meander back in. Love their clear garage doors and front patio seating (great for people watching!). However, the sun hadn't gone down enough, and it was still pretty hot, so they stay down with the A/C pumping out the good stuff to patrons inside. At this establishment you order up at the counter - the offerings are on the menu boards above - take your number, find a seat, and they bring out your fixings fresh and hot/cold. I wasn't too hungry at that point in the evening, so I got their Ceviche (comes with tortilla chips) for dine-in, and a salmon poke to-go for a separate meal. Their ceviche is white fish, slices of cucumbers, red onion slivers, tomato chunks, and very fresh lemon and lime juices. Made me pucker, but very, very good nonetheless! Felt the chips were odd, but they do (I guess) balance out the acidity/base combo. My sister got their Prickly Pear (cactus) Mule with St. George's green chili vodka, and it was seriously delish! Not too spicy, mixed with the tart from the fresh ginger, I'd definitely regret sliding back an entire one (I'm a bariatric patient, no stomach, haha)... but I totally would, haha!! My father got their scallops, mom got the fish and chips plate and my sister got a lobster roll. All three were very happy, nothing but good comments shared. I did tear off half a lightly battered fish tender and it was very good. I overheard they make all their sauces fresh in-house - tarter and cocktail, included. I wasn't drawn to their tartar sauce. It was definitely not thick like the namesake, more runny; my tastebuds just weren't feeling the dill addition, too. So, the fish tender went down without any accompaniment, and that was fine and dandy by me. My sister was a bit bummed on the size:price ratio of her lobster roll. Yes, she said it tasted very good; but for the price she was still a bit hungry after eating it. I got around to my poké the following night. I ordered the bowl with two proteins - I went with salmon for both to get extra protein. It was quite good. I forgot to ask for sauces on the side, so the teriyaki/sweet soy-tasting getup had seeped through, so it would have been better drizzled at the time of eating it, but it wasn't bad (could have definitely been a lot worse). Sorry for no pictures of this dish, totally forgot to snap one before leaving the restaurant/eating the dish the next nite. Overall, the quality of seafood here is very good; besides, this is in the middle of the desert landscape, so quality seafood is golden. I'd definitely recommend. They have a full bar inside, so this would be a great date nite spot, perfect for a group dinner outing, etc. ”
“ From the depths Of The ocean to AZ. This is one of the best seafood places I have found the lobster roll is out of this world Yes bread is perfectly grilled. Melted butter that comes with it is actual butter divine. Friendly service Eat outside enjoy the ambient fountains ”
“ Great Restaurant Week Pick! $55 for 2 people 2 first courses 2 second courses First course Oysters on a half shell: robust flavor and came with a house chili vinaigrette. I should have asked for horseradish and cocktail sauce. My date loved his cup of their rendition of Nee England Clam chowder Second Course I had a lovely grilled yellowtail steak with spicy sweet potato puree with crunchies strewn on top. My date had a ginormous shrimp burrito served with chips and salsa I treated myself to Kaylee's Kandy: seasoned fish jerky. Yummy! ”
“ Stopped in after a long time this restaurant was on my list and decided to go for it. I'm so glad I did! We participated in the AZ Restaurant Week event and ordered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees - Tuna Tostada & Cup of Clam Chowder and Shrimp Burrito & Tuna Melt. All the items were really tasty, fresh, and flavorful! I thoroughly enjoyed all the food and enjoyed how high quality it was. We also ordered a regular menu item - 3 pc fish & chips which were good! The fries ended up being a bit soggy because of the oil from the fish on top. The easy fix is to keep them separate instead of stacked. Ambiance is very cute and casual like a coastal cafe. I would come back when I'm craving quality grade and fresh seafood. ”
